Texas State Aquarium Earns CILC Pinnacle Award for Fourth Year in a Row

August 9, 2018

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – For the fourth year in a row, the Texas State Aquarium’s Flint Hills Resources Aquavision Distance Learning program has earned a Pinnacle Award from the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC). CILC has bestowed the Pinnacle Award annually since 2008 to organizations with a remarkable quality of educational content and exceptional skill at program delivery. The Aquarium’s most recent Pinnacle Award is for the 2017-2018 school year, with the previous awards granted for the 2014-2015, 2015-2016, and 2016-2017 school years.

Aquavision is a part of the Aquarium’s Flint Hills Resources Center for Excellence in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Education, which has been supported by Flint Hills Resources since 2007.  The Aquavision Flint Hills Resources Distance Learning Studio uses web-based video conferencing technology to teach students located around the world about the animals and habitats of the Texas State Aquarium. Aquavision implements Texas Education Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) with each Aquavision lesson, allowing teachers to add high-quality programming to their units without leaving the classroom. The popular Aquavision program connects nearly daily with schools, hospitals, and libraries around the nation to give students far and wide a virtual tour of habitats at the Texas State Aquarium and introduces young learners to animal ambassadors like dolphins, otters, sharks, and coral reef fish. Aquavision expanded even further in 2017 by installing additional cameras overlooking the flamingo, shark, and jungle habitats in Caribbean Journey.

“We’re thrilled and honored that our Aquavision program was once again selected for the Pinnacle Award,” said Leslie Peart, the Aquarium’s Vice President of Education and Conservation. “We’re immensely grateful to our community for their support, in particular Flint Hills Resources, which has been a longtime partner in our goal of extending the reach of our education program and instilling in the next generation a solid knowledge of STEM skills and the environment.”

The Aquarium is preparing for yet another busy school year to give students across Texas and beyond the opportunity to discover its amazing marine life through immersive and interactive lessons.
