CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS –  The Texas State Aquarium (TSA) for the fifth consecutive year was awarded a four-star rating, the highest possible score, from Charity Navigator, America’s largest and most-utilized independent evaluator of charities and non-profit institutions, as announced on August 1.

The Aquarium’s most recent Charity Navigator rating, which took into account records from 2016, evaluated TSA’s financials, accountability and transparency. On its financial metric, the Texas State Aquarium was rated 90.84 out of 100, with the report noting 79.2% of expenses are put towards programs, including exhibits, animal care and environmental education.

These scores averaged to an Overall Score & Rating of 92.93, placing the Texas State Aquarium as one of the most highly-rated aquariums on Charity Navigator. This is an increase over 2015’s Overall Score of 91.30.

“I’m pleased that we have once again achieved the highest rating possible from Charity Navigator,” said Aquarium President & CEO Tom Schmid. “Transparency and accountability are the hallmarks of a strong organization, and we’re pleased that Charity Navigator recognizes our commitment to good governance and program sustainability”
