Texas State Aquarium’s Rescue Otter Fisher Captures Hearts Around the World

WHAT:

A heartwarming Instagram reel featuring Fisher, a rescued North American river otter from the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, Texas, has captured the hearts of millions, going viral with over 20 million views and counting. The post has become the most engaging in the Aquarium’s social media history, amassing more than 1,000,000 likes, 923,071 shares, and thousands of comments, with numbers continuing to climb. This uplifting video has brought joy to countless viewers while shining a spotlight on the Aquarium’s Wildlife Rescue Program and its mission to save and rehabilitate animals like Fisher.

“We came across the idea on Instagram a couple of weeks ago and immediately knew it was a perfect fit for us,” said Carla Swallow, Marketing and Brand Manager at the Texas State Aquarium. “The Marine Mammal team provided a series of photos that were perfect for the video, and we quickly brought the concept to life. Within hours of posting, it was clear we had something special. The trust the Aquarium places in our team’s creativity and brand representation is invaluable, and we’re thrilled that this video is making people’s day and especially shining a spotlight on one of our favorite Wildlife Rescue Program ambassadors: Fisher.”

 

WHO:

Fisher the Otter: Fisher is a North American River otter whose journey began in Tyler, Texas, where a fisherman and his dog discovered him in the woods, suffering from severe puncture wounds. He was taken to a wildlife rehab facility, where he received expert care until he was fully healed. In June 2020, Fisher was welcomed into the Texas State Aquarium’s Wildlife Rescue Program. He is now an ambassador for the program, charming guests and social media followers alike while raising awareness about the importance of the Aquarium’s wildlife rescue mission. Fisher currently lives with two other otters, Arthur (another young rescue) and Merlin, the Aquarium’s senior otter.

 

WHEN:

The viral video began gaining traction on the morning of Sunday, November 17, and has continued to grow, reaching millions of views as of today, Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
