“Sensory Sensitive Sunday” at Texas State Aquarium Caters to Families Facing Autism Spectrum Disorders

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – This Sunday, April 7, in commemoration of Autism Awareness Month, a “Sensory Sensitive Sunday” at the Texas State Aquarium will offer children with autism spectrum disorders and their families an educational and inclusive experience.
This upcoming Sensory Sensitive Sunday, the fourth the Aquarium has held in the past year, is part of Aquarium’s ongoing Diversity and Inclusion Initiative, with support provided by the Blanche Davis Moore Foundation and grant from Driscoll Health Plan.
Sensory Sensitive Sunday will feature sensory-friendly animal presentations, quiet zones, and staff with sensory disorder training, all of which are designed to create a comfortable environment for families and their children who normally may not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy public spaces like the Aquarium. Special signage will also be placed throughout the Aquarium to inform families what to expect in a space, including lights, music changes, and free-flying birds.
