We are thrilled to update you on the progress of the new Port of Corpus Christi Center for Wildlife Rescue at the Texas State Aquarium. Construction is advancing quickly and in just a few more months, the building will be ready for our team to move in!
In the past few months, our Wildlife Rescue Center has far exceeded its normal capacity to respond to an unprecedented number of loggerhead sea turtle strandings. Hundreds of these sea turtles have been stranding ashore on the Port Aransas beach and across the Texas Gulf Coast. Emaciated and weakened, these sea turtles need professional medical care to be properly rehabilitated and returned to the ocean. While scientists are still trying to determine the cause of these strandings, the Texas State Aquarium has jumped into action to provide aid during this situation, utilizing all available resources and adjusting to meet the increasing demand. Initially, the Aquarium adapted our Wildlife Rescue Center’s pool to fit as many loggerhead sea turtles as possible. As more sea turtles have arrived, our dedicated and resourceful staff made room for the extra guests at the Aquarium. We repurposed a Tiger Dam System, originally designed to protect our facilities from hurricane flooding, into a sea turtle habitat on our ground floor. These industrious efforts have allowed us to house and rehabilitate more loggerhead sea turtles that required our help.
Can we count on you to help us get the Center for Wildlife Rescue the equipment it needs?
When you give today, your gift will be put to work tomorrow, ensuring the Center for Wildlife Rescue has all the equipment and state-of-the-art technology needed to respond to wildlife emergencies.
