Texas State Aquarium Gears Up For Spring Break With H-E-B Splash Park, Extended Hours

March 7, 2018

The Texas State Aquarium is ready to welcome the wave of Spring Break guests set to hit the Coastal Bend next week. The Aquarium will extend its hours March 10-18 to 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily, offering guests additional time to experience sharks, dolphins, otters, flamingos and more than 460 other species, not to mention the new Whataburger 4-Dimension Theater. The H-E-B Splash Park, the Aquarium’s popular water playground, will reopen March 10-18 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. These experiences in addition to parking are included with admission.

“Spring Break is always a great time for us as it marks the beginning of our high season.  It is traditionally our busiest week of the year, and this year we expect to welcome over 40,000 guests,” said Texas State Aquarium President and CEO Tom Schmid. “This year promises to be especially amazing as it’s the first time many of our Spring Break guests will experience Caribbean Journey, which opened in May of last year.”

Caribbean Journey includes a jungle with flamingos, free-flying birds, a Maya Ruins and aquatic overlooks as well as an underwater level showcasing coral reefs and the 400,000-gallon H-E-B Caribbean Sea, where sharks and other fish swim among a life-size replica shipwreck. The Whataburger 4-Dimension Theater is showing alternate screenings “Ice Age 4D: No Time for Nuts” and “Shark 4D.” Guests can also take in wildlife presentations held every half-hour as well as explore the Gulf of Mexico and other outdoor exhibits to get up-close and personal with fish, jellies, dolphins, otters, eagles, alligators and more.

On March 19, The H-E-B Splash Park will suspend operations until closer to Memorial Day and the Aquarium will return to its regular hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday. H-E-B Splash Park as well as Aquarium hours are subject to change without notice.
