Sensory Sensitive Sundays Return to the Texas State Aquarium

January 11, 2022

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Texas State Aquarium announces Sensory Sensitive Sundays will return in 2022. Every 3rd Sunday during the winter and spring months, families with children with sensory sensitivities will be able to enjoy the Aquarium in a quieter, modified environment.

This upcoming Sensory Sensitive Sunday is part of Aquarium’s ongoing Diversity and Inclusion Initiative, which is provided in part by a partnership with the Driscoll Health Plan.

Sensory Sensitive events will have sensory-friendly modifications, modified animal presentations, and staff with sensory disorder training, all of which are designed to create a comfortable environment for families and their children who normally may not have the opportunity to enjoy public spaces like the Aquarium. Music will be lowered and designated quiet zones and special signage will be placed throughout the Aquarium to inform families what to expect in a space, including lights, music changes, and free-flying birds.

Sensory Sensitive Sundays will take place on the following dates:

  • January 16, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • February 20, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • March 20, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • April 17, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
