“Dream Night” at Texas State Aquarium on May 30 to Benefit Children With Special Needs and Their Families

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Texas State Aquarium’s inaugural “Dream Night,” presented by the Driscoll Health Plan, is planned for May 30 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This free after-hours event will provide an experience tailored to children with special needs and their families. Tickets are complimentary and will be distributed through local school districts and service providers.

To give the best experience possible, the event will be capped at 250 guests. Through this limited attendance and special programming, Dream Night aims to create a comfortable environment for families and their children who normally may not have the opportunity to enjoy public spaces like the Aquarium.

Dream Night guests will be treated to a series of modified animal experiences, including a dolphin presentation, a special dive show, up-close animal encounters, an airbrush tattoo station, touch boxes for tactile opportunities as well a visit from the Aquarium’s mascot, Dorsey the dolphin. The Whataburger 4-Dimension Theater will also be open throughout the event. Signage will be placed throughout the Aquarium to notify guests of the experiences they can expect in each area including free-flying birds or music. Quiet spaces will be made available.

Dream Night is an international event for children with special healthcare needs and their families and is held at several AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums across the country. These special evening events feature additional inclusive and disability-friendly programming with activities and special encounters. Through its Diversity & Inclusion Initiative and with the support of local partners, the Texas State Aquarium holds Dream Night, Sensory Sensitive Sundays and other events to better accommodate guests of all abilities.
