Texas State Aquarium Announces Ocean Odyssey, a New Children’s Discovery Center Focused on Wildlife Rescue

January 9, 2026

Corpus Christi, Texas — The Texas State Aquarium is pleased to announce Ocean Odyssey, an immersive, multi-level Children’s Discovery Center designed to inspire play, learning, and a deeper connection to wildlife rescue. Scheduled to open in Spring 2026, Ocean Odyssey will transform a former theater space into a year-round, indoor experiential playground.
Ocean Odyssey is designed as a hands-on, climbable environment where children and families can explore the world of wildlife rescue through interactive play. Inspired by the Aquarium’s nationally recognized wildlife rescue program, the Discovery Center will introduce guests to rescue-themed elements through age-appropriate experiences, from toddler-friendly spaces to more advanced climbing and exploration features.

“This space allows us to take a part of our mission that resonates deeply with our community, wildlife rescue and resiliency, and translate it into an experience that is fun, safe, and engaging for guests of all ages,” said Jesse Gilbert, President and CEO of the Texas State Aquarium. “Ocean Odyssey gives children the chance to learn through movement, imagination, and discovery, while reinforcing the importance of caring for wildlife.”

Designed by one of the nation’s leading children’s museum and discovery center firms, the new attraction will be a great addition to the Aquarium and City. The approximately $2 million project is being self-funded by the Texas State Aquarium, reflecting the organization’s long-term investment in guest experience, education, and mission-driven growth. In addition to enhancing year-round visitation, Ocean Odyssey is expected to increase the length of stay and further strengthen membership engagement.

Ocean Odyssey will be adjacent to a food and beverage area with an added bar top for family viewing, giving families a place to enjoy snacks and beverages while keeping an eye on children at play, further enhancing the Aquarium’s family-friendly experience.

Construction is currently underway, with major installation expected to begin in early 2026.

Ocean Odyssey builds upon a period of significant momentum for the Texas State Aquarium, which was recently named the No. 3 Best Aquarium in North America by USA Today and is home to the largest and most active coastal wildlife rescue program in the United States. The new Discovery Center reflects the Aquarium’s continued commitment to education, conservation, and creating meaningful experiences for families across Texas and beyond.
More details about Ocean Odyssey will be announced in the coming months.
