Our AquaTeens were busy this summer! Through hands-on experiences and real world applications, students developed skills and earned certifications that they can apply toward the next steps in their education, career pathways, and future workforce readiness.
A huge thank you to each organization that made this experience possible through your generosity, hospitality, and expertise. Your support helps shape the next generation of STEMM leaders!
Learning Undefeated Learning Undefeated Port’s PORT-Able Learning Lab team visited the Aquarium to lead our AquaTeens through a hands-on Acoustic Shields challenge. Using gas laws and the engineering design process, students collaborated to create bubble curtain designs.
Port Of Corpus Christi Vessel Familiarization. Students were able to apply the knowledge from the boater safety course as they took an excursion on the Vessel with the POCC.
Padre Island National Seashore Students underwent a nesting sea turtle exercise and learned about sea turtle species, their behaviors, and conservation efforts from sea turtles experts.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Sara Jose facilitated a birding course that introduced students on how to identify birds in the coastal bend and go out into the field to apply this knowledge birding.
NOAA Dr. Brian Stacy DVM joined students virtually to share his expertise on sea turtles and how students can best prepare themselves for careers in STEMM. Dr. Stacy was our keynote speaker.
Autonomy Research Institute at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Students were fortunate to join the team with the ARI. They brought their Nomad Command Center Vehicle onsite and also hosted the students at their Flour Bluff location. Students learned about drone usage, engineering, and visited the mission command center.
Texas A&M Agrilife Students completed a boater’s safety course and are now certified. TPWD’s boater education certification is legally required for younger boaters operating certain vessels in Texas, and while older boaters may be exempt, taking the course increases safety and responsibility on the water. Once completed, certification lasts a lifetime and is inexpensive to obtain.
