Texas State Aquarium Comes to You!

Experience the wonders of the Texas State Aquarium as we bring the excitement of hands-on learning to your schools, libraries, churches and events! Our TEKS aligned outreach programs offer personal attention, close contact with Aquarium animals and biofacts and engaging STEM activities for all ages.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are outside a 20 mile radius from the Texas State Aquarium, additional travel fees will apply.  ANY program requiring 2 instructors will be $188.00 for first program and $130.00 for each additional program booked. 

  • Grades Pre-K - K

    Creature Tales – 45 minutes

    The Aquarium introduces an exciting animal program with a twist!  Students will enjoy an animal story and then meet and greet the superstar of the book. Read along, make observations, identify adaptations, recall facts, and investigate animal biofacts.

    Get all your creature questions answered as we get up close and personal with our animal ambassadors.  Together we will explore, identify, compare and contrast their adaptations and how these features help them live in specific habitats.

    Amazing Adaptations/Conservation – 45 min

    Investigate how an animal’s body parts and behaviors help it survive in its environment.  Through observations and data collection, students can begin to draw conclusions linking an animal’s adaptations to its survival on land and sea.  Students will also learn about the animal’s conservation status and what they can do to help conserve these amazing creatures.

    Fishy Friends
    What makes a fish a fish? Discover the special characteristics common to most fish and learn which fish have unique features all their own! Students will observe, compare, contrast, and use identification tools to seek out and investigate some of the Aquarium’s diverse fishes.

    Meet Our Otters! 
    Learn about the North American river otter’s adaptations through hands-on activities, exploration of otter biofacts, and engaging video clips of our resident otters. Your students will identify, compare and contrast otter adaptations to the tools and equipment humans use to perform similar tasks in their environment.

    Ocean in a Box – 45 minutes

    Journey to the ocean as we observe, discuss and identify shark teeth, sea turtle shells, a variety of corals, and much, much more!  This display of ocean biofacts is perfect for science day discovery, exploration or special events.  Ocean in a Box encompasses a wide range of topics and items for participants to describe, compare, and touch.

    Career Days

    It takes more than just one type of person and skill set to make the Aquarium a well-designed and fantastic place to engage our guests with our animals.  We’ll introduce your students to the diverse careers at the Aquarium, ranging from animal husbandry and education, to video production, water chemistry and communications.  It takes a team to run the Aquarium!

    Turtle Tracks 
    Students become marine biologists as they track Tammy, a Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle, on her journey across the Gulf of Mexico. During their sea turtle study, students discuss why scientists track sea turtles and what technology they use. Student will read aloud and plot Tammy’s migration path, hypothesize why she may have traveled to different locations, and identify potential threats encountered in the Gulf of Mexico waters.

    Let’s Talk Sharks! 
    How do sharks survive the challenges of nature and those presented by hu­mans? Students will investigate shark adaptations for swimming, sensing prey and escaping predators. They will also discover how scientists study and track sharks in the ocean and what they can do to save sharks.

    Help a hatchling sea turtle find its way to the sea.  Students will meet a variety of sea creatures during this puppet show that teaches Sea-leste the facts of life through their special adaptations.
