Camp Schedule:

  • Camp programming begins promptly at 9 a.m. Drop-off/check-in begins at 8:45 a.m.
  • Camp ends at 4:00 p.m. Late pick-up after 4:15 p.m. will incur late fees.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: A cancellation notice must be received, in writing; at least 30 days prior to camp start date for a 50% refund.  We do not offer refunds or pro-rated fees due to illness or weather conditions. See Parent Packet for additional information.

Fall Mini-camps 2017

With our fall mini-camps, your camper could become an artist, a scientist, an engineer, or a chef. Your child’s creativity and innovation will be inspired by marine explorations and jungle adventures found in a Caribbean Journey.

  • Artful Aquarium | Grades Kindergarten- 2nd

    Draw! Paint! Sculpt! Time to get messy and let your camper’s creativity flow with our Caribbean animals and their habitats as inspiration. In addition to drawing, painting, and sculpting, campers will also tour the Caribbean exhibits, see a show, meet an animal ambassador, and create their very own sketchbook. Learn what scientists and artists have in common. Let the Caribbean Journey inspire your camper’s creativity!

  • Feast for the Beasts | Grades Kindergarten- 2nd

    Have you ever wondered what a sloth or an octopus would consider to be a delicious and nutritious treat? Find out at our “Feast for the Beast” camp. Learn how the Texas State Aquarium preps hundreds of meals for our animals every week. Discover the unique dietary needs for different animals. Your camper will try their hand at preparing a sample diet for one of our animals and then taste it for themselves!

  • Aquarium Innovators | Grades 3rd-5th

    Ingenuity and innovation are the key words for this STEM-based experience. Campers will learn what unique design problems can arise in designing an aquarium to safely house our animals, as well as, creatively solve some unique design problems that can arise during day to day aquarium operations. Be prepared to think outside the box in both individual and team situations and have some of your designs tested. Meet our aquarium staff who utilize the Engineering Design Process as part of their jobs. Tour the aquarium to spot some of our own innovative design solutions. Then, let your creative juices flow to design your own aquarium exhibit for your chosen animal.

  • Coastal Creations  |   Grades 6th-8th 

    In this “STEAM” based camp, we will put the “A” into STEM by discovering where Art and Science meet with a unique plein-aire art excursion to Sunset Lake (weather permitting). Through the creation and use of a sketchbook/field journal, you will experience how artists and scientists rely on the same skills of observation to interpret information about our environment. 1-2 art pieces which combine both drawing and painting will be our goal.

Winter Mini-camps 2017

During our winter mini-camps, the youngest campers can learn more about their favorite aquatic superheroes while our older campers can discover the sciences of water.

  • Sharks- Superheroes of the Seas | Grades Kindergarten - 2nd

    Some superheroes are always misunderstood. Seen as dark and dangerous, sharks are often cast as the villain in the story when really they are a necessary part of the food chain. Discover this hero’s super sensitive powers and learn who their most powerful foe really is.

  • Dolphins- Superheroes of the Seas | Grades Kindergarten - 2nd

    As superstars of the sea, these high flying heroes are often thought of as fast, smart, and acrobatic. However, campers will reveal some of the dolphins’ more “secret super power” adaptations. Because of the very real dangers dolphins face in our open oceans, they will need all their super powers combined to survive.

  • Octopuses- Superheroes of the Seas | Grades Kindergarten - 2nd

    Able to get in and out of tight spaces, can become practically invisible, a master mind of puzzle solving, unmask these shy superheroes who hide in plain sight… the octopus!

  • H2O Lab | Grades 3rd-5th

    Splish, Splash! Time to get a little wet and messy in this chemistry-based mini-camp. Campers will run various water-based experiments to discover the unique chemical properties of water. They will find out why water quality is so important to our aquatic animals and how the Texas State Aquarium controls the water quality for all our animals. They will learn how the water cycle provides us with the water we use and will design and test their own water filtration system.

  • Aquatic Olympics | Grades 3rd-5th

    Let’s get physical with our water! Campers will participate in an Aquatic Olympics of experiments to discover the unique physical characteristics of water, discover what submarines and sea turtles have in common, as well as, create and test their own submarine design.

  • Sea Creature Survivors | Grades 3rd-5th

    Image living your whole life underwater! Investigate the extraordinary adaptions and behaviors of deep ocean animals that aid their survival in aquatic habitats. Campers will discover what animals live at different zones in the oceans. Learn about the challenges that some aquatic animals face from invaders, pollution, or total darkness and how they overcome those challenges.
