Texas State Aquarium to Coordinate Clean Up of North Beach as Part of Statewide Adopt-A-Beach Program

Keeping Texas beaches clean and safe is an economic as well as environmental priority. Coastal tourism, a $7 billion industry, and commercial fishing, a $1.9 billion business, demand clean beaches and a healthy gulf to thrive. Since 1986, the Aquarium’s clean-ups have removed more than 225,000 pounds of trash from local beaches and wetlands. In total, Adopt-A-Beach volunteers have picked up more than 9,500 tons of trash from Texas beaches.

The Texas State Aquarium  will coordinate a cleanup of the North Beach area for the 2018 Texas Adopt-A-Beach Winter Beach Cleanup on Saturday, February 10. Texas State Aquarium volunteers will also conduct a cleanup of Packery Channel Park. Both events will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 12:00 p.m.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Texas State Aquarium and the cleanup begins at 9 a.m. Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of drinking water. All other necessary materials including trash bags and gloves will be provided.
