Summer SeaCamp 2021

SeaCamp 2021 invites campers ages 10 and over to dive into STEM careers at the Texas State Aquarium. This summer, we reimagined camp to provide behind-the-scenes experiences and animal encounters that will allow campers to practice the skills it takes to work at an Aquarium and conserve wildlife. They’ll even come eye-to-eye with our living collection while snorkeling in the Caribbean Sea exhibit! Limited spots available.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why are fewer dates and ages available this year?
Due to changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we selected dates to maximize the experience for the campers while still keeping safety and best practices in mind. This year, we will focus on science careers and STEM skills used at an Aquarium. The small group sizes and selected age ranges allow camp groups to participate in activities that were not possible before, including extensive behind-the-scenes experiences, animal experiences, and snorkeling in an exhibit.
  • How is this year’s SeaCamp different from past years’ SeaCamp experiences?

As the Texas State Aquarium has grown, so has our approach to our mission. This year’s camp builds on the traditions of hands-on education while adding a significant behind-the-scenes, insider’s view of how STEM is put into action with taking care of our animals. Campers will head behind-the-scenes to learn the ins and outs of working at an aquarium. They will see how to prepare daily diets, feed some of our exhibits, learn how experts treat rescued wildlife, and even experience what it’s like when our staff swim inside our exhibits!

  • Will my camper be required to wear a mask?

Yes. The Texas State Aquarium is continuing to follow all COVID-19 safety guidelines, which includes requiring masks for all guests 10 years of age and older. For the health and safety of our campers, staff, and animal collection, all campers will be required to wear a properly fitting face mask the entirety of the camp day.  Campers will be allowed to remove their masks during meal times and specifically designated mask breaks throughout the day.  As part of their camp registration paperwork, parents/guardians will be required to agree that their camper will wear their mask.

  • What is the Aquarium doing to protect my camper from exposure to COVID-19?

The Aquarium is employing a variety of methods to best protect the health and safety of campers and camp staff.

    • Camp groups are limited to 10 campers per group.
    • Both campers and all staff are required to wear face masks the entirety of the camp day.
    • Campers will be socially distanced as much as possible from each other and from other guests throughout the day.
    • Campers will have individual supplies to use throughout the week that will not be shared with other groups.
    • Camp supplies will be disinfected regularly.
    • Campers will have access to hand sanitizer throughout their day and will be given multiple opportunities to wash their hands with soap and water.
  • Who will be with my campers?

Texas State Aquarium’s full-time Education staff, who are trained in best practices and are certified in CPR, First Aid, and Life Guarding, will facilitate SeaCamp.

  • Can I register for a camp if my child is not in the specified age range?

To maximize engagement and provide a positive experience for all, your camper must register for the camp in their designated age range.  For summer 2021, we are offering experiences for campers aged 10-17.

  • Are scholarships available?

A limited number of camp spots are being held for scholarship campers, made possible by a generous gift from Navy Army Community Credit Union.

The scholarship deadline for summer 2021 has now passed. All applicants will be contacted by May 19th with the final decision.

  • Is Before and After Care available?

Before and After care is not available this year. Camp runs from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Cancellation Policy

A refund of 50% of the cost can be accommodated prior to the one-week registration deadline. However, if you decide to withdraw from this program after the deadline, your payment will not be refunded.
