Overnight Visits

Sleep with the fishes and snooze with the sharks at the Texas State Aquarium! Join us for an overnight adventure full of excitement and discovery as your group participates in evening programs and hands-on activities. Each overnight experience includes a bedtime snack and breakfast the following morning. Admission to the Aquarium the following day is included for all camp-ins.

  • You must register for programs at least two weeks in advance.
  • Participants must be at least six years old in order to participate in a camp-in.
  • A minimum ratio of one adult for every ten students attending is required.

Please exercise great care in counting your group. The exact number of persons and final payment are due two weeks prior to your camp-in date. The number of attendees may not increase or decrease after the two week guarantee, and no refunds can be made after that date. Please contact your group leader with questions regarding your overnight stay.

Beginning in 2019, overnights will begin at 6:30 p.m. They will not include dinner but will include an evening snack and hot breakfast.  Please be sure to eat dinner before you arrive.

  • Private Overnights

    Discover the wonders of the Aquarium’s habitats, from the open ocean to the colorful coral depths, as your group treks through the aquarium on its own personalized adventure. Observe evening and late night behaviors, discover the amazing adaptations our aquarium animals use to survive, and complete a challenge at the end of the night.     If your school, scout, or other group would like to reserve a private overnight, you must have a minimum of 25 participants. A minimum of one adult chaperone per ten campers is required, and all participants must be at least six years old.

  • Family Nights

    Bring your family or small group to sleep with the fish at the Texas State Aquarium! Discover the aquarium after dark as you participate in after-hours guided tours and activities, experience a Dive Show, and have an up-close encounter with one of our animal ambassadors.     This program is for families with children ages 6 and up. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

    Payment is due at the time of registration. Please note, if your date does not reach the minimum number of participants required within two weeks of the event, we may need to cancel the event.

  • Scout Nights

    Bring your troop to spend the night at the Aquarium by choosing one of our Scout Nights! To contact us for more information or to reserve spots for your group, please call (361)-881-1201 or email educationprograms@txstateaq.org.

    Registration closes two weeks before the event.

     All scouts must be accompanied by an adult, and a minimum of one adult per ten scouts is required. Participants must be at least six years old.

    Cub Scouts: June 14, 2019; October 18, 2019
    Join other Cub Scouts in an overnight adventure at the Texas State Aquarium. Have an up-close encounter with one of our animal ambassadors, experience a dive show, and sleep with the animals. During the overnight activities, we will work towards following adventure requirements:

    Tigers in the Wild: 7
    Bears Fur, Feathers, and Ferns: 2,3,5
    Webelos Into the Wild: 6,7a-c, 8, 9a

    Girl Scouts (All Ages): April 12, 2019; June 28, 2019; November 22, 2019
    Join other Girl Scout troops as you learn about the animals and the habitats that our aquarium residents call home. Each night includes an up-close encounter with one of our animal ambassadors, a dive show, and a sleeping spot near the animals.

    Girl Scouts: Brownie Senses Badge: August 9, 2019

    Use all five senses to explore the Texas State Aquarium after dark.  Compare your senses to those of our animals and discover more about the unique adaptations of our Aquarium residents. Along the way, you’ll have an up-close encounter with one of our animal ambassadors and sleep near the animals.

    Girl Scouts: Junior Animal Habitats Badge: March 22, 2019; August 9, 2019

    Join other Junior Girl Scouts while working towards your Animal Habitats badge through hands-on activities and exploration.  Explore the aquarium habitats after hours, have an up-close encounter with one of our animals, and create your own animal home.  We will meet Steps 1-4 during the overnight and will provide materials for a beach clean-up to meet Step 5 the following morning.

    Girl Scouts: Cadette Night Owl Badge: March 22, 2019

    Explore the Aquarium after dark as you work towards your Night Owl badge.  Discover animal adaptations for nighttime, have an up-close encounter with a nocturnal animal and create a nocturnal creature.

    Payment is due at the time of registration. Please note, if your group’s night does not reach the minimum number of participants required within two weeks of the event, we may need to cancel the event.
