Texas State Aquarium Comes to You!

Experience the wonders of the Texas State Aquarium as we bring the excitement of hands-on learning to your schools, libraries, churches and events! Our TEKS aligned outreach programs offer personal attention, close contact with Aquarium animals and biofacts and engaging STEM activities for all ages.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are outside a 20 mile radius from the Texas State Aquarium, additional travel fees will apply.  ANY program requiring 2 instructors will be $188.00 for first program and $130.00 for each additional program booked. 

  • Grades Pre-K - K

    Jungle Moves! (30 minutes)

    We will move and groove as your students investigate the animals of the Aquarium’s Caribbean Jungle.  Students will practice moving like animals, explore animal adaptations for movement, and interact with a live reptile.

    Seaside Shells (30 minutes)

    Students will investigate patterns, textures, colors, and shapes by sorting their own bags of real shells. After investigating the properties of shells, they will meet the live animals that call shells home.

  • Grades 1 - 2

    Reptiles!  (45 minutes)

    Meet two of the Aquarium’s reptile animal ambassadors, and identify, compare and contrast their adaptations and how these features help them survive in their habitats.  Learn about the reptiles that call Texas home and what we can do to conserve them.

    Texas Coastal Creatures (45 minutes)

    From sea turtles to sea stars, learn about the creatures that call our Texas beaches and Gulf Coast waters home.  Meet and greet live marine invertebrates, and learn what we can do to conserve marine life in the Gulf of Mexico.

    Let’s Talk Sharks (45 minutes)

    How do sharks survive the challenges of nature and those presented by hu­mans? Participants will investigate shark adaptations for swimming, sensing prey and escaping predators. They will also discover how scientists study and track sharks in the ocean and what they can do to save sharks.

  • Grades 6-8

    Squid Dissection

    Investigate the wild world of cephalopods, those “head-foot” animals in the phylum Mollusca. By observing, identifying, comparing and contrasting, and describing students will discover the special characteristics of the phylum Mollusca, as well as the adaptations that squid use to eat, move, and protect themselves from predators. Students will conduct an external and internal dissection of a squid. TEKS: Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade Science 1A; 3A; 4A, B; as well as TEKS covering organisms, adaptations, and habitats for all grades. Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade Aquatic Science 1A; 2E; 3A, 10B

    Squid Dissection

  • Mixed Ages - Large Group Events

    Bring science to life for your community group!  We’ll come to you and bring an interactive presentation or an activity table for your special event.

    Large Group Presentations

     Each program consists of a 30-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute touch table and question and answer session with one of our expert staff. Large Group Presentations are best for general public audiences, such as library programs or community events. These programs are designed for ages 4 and up.

    It takes more than just one type of person and skill set to make the Aquarium a well-designed and fantastic place to engage our guests with our animals.  We’ll bring a display that introduces your group to the diverse careers at the Aquarium, including animal husbandry, education, water chemistry and communications.  It takes a team to run the Aquarium!
