Summer SeaCamp

Texas State Aquarium’s SeaCamp 2018 will be an immersive educational journey whether making discoveries around the Gulf Coast, diving to the bottom of the Caribbean Sea, or exploring the vibrant jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula. Your child can be an explorer, an environmental protector, or a scientist… your child will be a SeaCamper.

SeaCamp Philosophy: Our camps and camp environments are designed to support inclusive and collaborative learning, promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) exploration and discovery, and empower campers to reach their full potential.

How to Register

  • Pay for your camp(s), Before Care, and After Care online
  • Please note: All required paperwork for each student is now part of the registration process. This will include a student health card, photo release, waiver, and pick up permission slip. We require that all information regarding your camper is accurate, and up to date when registering for camp for this purpose.

Please note camp registration closes Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. the week before your camp begins.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: A cancellation notice must be received, in writing; at least 30 days prior to camp start date for a 50% refund. In the event of rescheduling your week of camp, a $10 rescheduling fee will be assessed. We do not offer refunds or pro-rated fees due to illness or weather conditions. Parent Information

Important parent/camper information will be found in the Parent Packet. The packet is designed to answer the most frequently asked questions and  will give you information on camp policies, what to bring to camp, what not to bring to camp, and much, much more. Please look over the packet with your camper(s) before camp begins.

Camp Schedule

  • Camp programming for all campers (Pre-K thru 12th grade) begins promptly at 9 a.m. Drop-off/check-in begins at 8:45 a.m.
  • Late drop-off after 9:15 a.m. will incur late fees.
  • For grades 1st thru 12th, camp ends at 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Thursday.
  •  For grades 1st thru 12th, Friday camp sessions end at 1:30 p.m. SeaCampers are encouraged to participate in “Bring Your Adult to SeaCamp” on Friday afternoons.
  • Late pick-up after 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday and 2:00 p.m. on Fridays will incur late fees.
  • For Pre-K thru Kindergarten campers, their half days sessions run from 9:00 a.m. – noon. Late pick-up after 12:15 p.m. will incur late fees.

Fees

  • A $10 late fee will be assessed for drop off/check-ins made after 9:15 a.m. unless you make arrangements with the Camp Specialist prior to the date.
  • A $10 early pick up fee will be assessed for pickups before 4:00 p.m. unless you make arrangements with the Camp Specialist prior to the date.
    A $10 late fee will be assessed for pickups for ages 4 and 5 made after 12:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
  • A $10 late fee will be assessed for pickups for 1st – 12th grade made after 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday and after 2:00 p.m. on Friday for those not enrolled in After Care.
  • Please note- we offer After Care for grades 1st-12th. You must register for After Care by the Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. the week before your camp begins.
  • A $10 rescheduling fee will be assessed for any rescheduling of your week of camp.
  • Counselors and Staff will not be able to take fee payments at the time of late drop off, late pickup, or early pickup. A bill will be sent.

Pre-K and Kindergarten

  • Feathers, Furs, Skins, and Scales

    (For campers ages 4 and 5 that have turned four by June 1st, 2018.) 

    It’s all about exploring extraordinary animals in this fun-filled week. SeaSquirts will learn what makes a bird a bird and a fish a fish, as well as, what is special about mammals, invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians. This camp will expand the minds of young learners through creative play, scientific discovery, and storytelling.

  • Home Sweet Home

    (For campers ages 4 and 5 that have turned four by June 1st, 2018.) 

    Pay a visit to the unique homes of our animals here at the Texas State Aquarium. Creative play, scientific discovery, along with storytelling adds to the adventure as campers explore the Aquarium’s unique habitats that our animals call “Home Sweet Home”.

1st Graders

  • Passport to Adventure

    (For campers entering 1st grade in Fall 2018)

    Discover dynamic habitats as you embark on a high-seas, hands-on adventure around the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. Add to your “habitat passport” each day as you “travel” to a new location discovering amazing animals along the way. 1st graders will visit our Splash Park Tuesday thru Friday, weather permitting.

  • Amazing Animals

    (For campers entering 1st grade in Fall 2018)

    Aren’t animals just amazing? We all have our favorites. Become some of your favorite animals in this fun-filled camp by hunting like a shark, camouflaging like an octopus, or balancing like a flamingo. You will spend each day learning how truly amazing animals are and how they live in the most unlikely of environments.  1st graders will visit our Splash Park Tuesday thru Friday, weather permitting.

  • SeaCampers to the Rescue

    (For campers entering 2nd or 3rd grade in Fall 2018)

    Attention: Calling all Animal Protectors. The fate of endangered animals in Corpus Christi and around the world hangs in the balance. We need your help! Report to the Texas State Aquarium for this conservation camp. Campers you will learn about animals in danger and what you can do to protect them. 2nd and 3rd graders will visit our Splash Park Tuesday thru Friday, weather permitting.

  • Voyage thru the Texas State Aquarium

    (For campers entering 2nd or 3rd grade in Fall 2018)

    “All a Board!” Join us for this aquatic exploration featuring the habitats and animals of the Texas State Aquarium. Throughout your aquarium exploration discover how our amazing animals have adapted to living in their diverse habitats. 2nd and 3rd graders will visit our Splash Park Tuesday thru Friday, weather permitting.

  • Expedition Aquarium

    (For campers entering 4th or 5th grade in Fall 2018)

    Dust off you hat, pack your backpack, and get your sunscreen ready so that you can join us on an exciting expedition at the Texas State Aquarium. Your journey will transport you through the ecosystems found in both the Gulf of Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula. 4th and 5th graders will visit our Splash Park or engage in an alternate water based activity Tuesday thru Friday, weather permitting.

    Please note this camp includes one fieldtrip.

  • Guardians of the Gulf

    (For campers entering 4th or 5th grade in Fall 2018)

    It’s time to make a change. Along with your fellow campers learn how you can become part of that change by becoming a “Guardian of the Gulf”. Discover how as humans we can cause large scale negative impacts on our local aquatic environments, as well as, around the world; but also discover how we can change that. In this inspirational camp, your mission will be to investigate how changing some of you habits can have a big impact. 4th and 5th graders will visit our Splash Park or engage in an alternate water based activity Tuesday thru Friday, weather permitting.

    Please note this camp includes one fieldtrip.

  • Sea Where the Road Takes You

    (For campers entering 6th or 7th grade in Fall 2018)

    Time to hit the road and learn how to support wildlife in our local habitats. While on the road, campers will learn about the animals that call the Coastal Bend home.  In addition to touring the aquarium, campers will take daily field excursions to local sites. A highlight of your week will include a kayaking excursion.

    Please note that this is a fieldtrip based camp.

  • An Ocean of Opportunities

    (For campers entering 6th or 7th grade in Fall 2018)

    “Ever been asked what you want to be when you grow up? Not sure yet? That’s ok.” In this Marine STEM-based Career camp, you will get the chance to experience a wide variety of aquatic jobs at both the Texas State Aquarium and throughout the local community. In addition to exploring behind the scenes at the Texas State Aquarium, you will get the opportunity to take fieldtrips to visit professionals in our community.

    Please note that this is a fieldtrip based camp.

8th or 9th Grade

  • Field Investigators

    (For campers entering 8th or 9th grade in Fall 2018)

    To be honest sometimes science is a little bit messy, but that is when it is the most fun! On adventures throughout the Coastal Bend, campers will experience science at its dirtiest. Working at different locations allows participants to experience how scientists conduct field work. The highlight of this camp will be an overnight stay at Welder Wildlife Refuge.

    Please note that this is a fieldtrip based camp and includes one overnight experience.

    Times: Monday and Tuesday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday 9:00 a.m. drop off, Thursday 4:00 p.m. pickup, and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

  • Water under the Bridge

    (For campers entering 8th or 9th grade in Fall 2018)  

    You and your team will be designing a new bridge for Corpus Christi. Using science, technology, engineering, and math, your team will have several tasks to complete to successfully design and build a bridge. To complete these tasks, you will take fieldtrips throughout the community and meet with local experts. Finally, your bridge design will be 3D printed and tested for strength.

    Please note that this is a fieldtrip based camp.

10th thru 12th Grade

  • Stewards of the Coastal Bend

    (For campers entering 10th thru 12th grade in Fall 2018)

    Time to roll up your sleeves and get to work making a difference in this conservation-focused week. Participants will focus on stewardship to the Coastal Bend by working on local conservation efforts that directly impact our region. Gain real world experience while giving back to our community through service projects and working with professionals in their fields. A highlight of your week will include a surfing lesson at a local surf camp.

    Please note that this is a fieldtrip based camp.

Before Care & After Care

Before Care

Before Care is $20 for the week and runs from 7:30 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. Before Care is available for SeaSquirts thru 12th grade.

After Care

After Care is $20 for the week and runs from 4:15 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday and from 1:45 p.m. thru 5:30 p.m. on Friday. After Care is available for grades 1st– 12th. We do not offer After Care for SeaSquirts.

 

Please Note- A $10 late fee will be assessed for After Care pickups made after 5:30 p.m. Counselors will not be able to take late fee payments at the time of late pickup. A bill will be sent.
