In consideration of the health and safety of its community, employees, volunteers, guests and animals, the Texas State Aquarium is temporarily closed to the public through at least April.
Events and programs at the Aquarium will also be canceled or rescheduled to a later date.
During this closing period, some essential staff, including animal care, water quality, and operations personnel, will continue reporting to the Aquarium to maintain exhibits and critical systems and provide care for the more than 400 species that make their Aquarium their home. While there is no indication that COVID-19 poses a risk to the Aquarium’s animals, expert veterinary and Animal Care staff will continue to carefully monitor the animals under their care.
Employees that remain on-site will continue to follow the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) recommendations for frequent handwashing, social distancing, and the use of personal protective equipment. The facility will continue to undergo increased cleaning and disinfection procedures throughout the closing in accordance with CDC guidelines. Aquarium leadership will remain in close contact with city and county officials to share updates as they develop.
During the Aquarium’s closing, all non-essential staff and volunteers will remain at home and work remotely as permitted. All full-time scheduled employees will be paid during the closure.
The Texas State Aquarium sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience this closing may cause to visitors planning a trip to the Aquarium. The Aquarium will work with all guests affected by the closure to reschedule their visit or event or to refund their ticket purchase. To inquire about tickets, guests can Text the Manager at 361-524-4066 or call 361-881-1340.
For more information as it develops, guests, members and other supporters of the Aquarium are encouraged to follow the Aquarium’s social media accounts and website.
Thank you for your continued support of the Texas State Aquarium, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
