The Texas State Aquarium has a great group of volunteers who help keep our plants, animals and habitats healthy and our guests happy.
Come discover the unique and varied opportunities for volunteers.
There are many benefits to volunteering. Meeting new people and learning new things are just the beginning. You will also get free admission to the Aquarium and free parking. You can earn guest passes and recognition for your work. Volunteers also get 20% off in the Gift Shops and Food Court.
Volunteer / Internship Opportunities
Exhibit Guides are "volunteer teachers" who share their knowledge of the Aquarium animals and habitats with the guests. The only thing you need to bring is enthusiasm and the ability to work a 3-hour shift once a week. We provide the training. Guides must be 18 years old.
Animal Husbandry includes the areas of fish and invertebrates, marine mammals, Wild Flight, bird rehabilitation and dive. You must be 18 years old to work in these areas, and the shifts are 4 hours. Volunteers help prepare food for the animals and keep the animals healthy and the exhibits clean. Divers must be 18 years old, dive certified, and will need to have doctor's clearance and pass a check-out dive.
Gift Shop volunteers assist with stocking, cleaning, and helping guests with merchandise in our two gift shops, the Shoreline and the Cove. Minimum age is 18 years old.
Administrative volunteers help stuff envelopes and packets, prepare mail-outs and do some computer work. Minimum age is 18 years old.

AquaTeens
AquaTeens is an exciting way for kids 14-17 years old to explore the opportunities in zoo and aquarium careers. We are looking for positive, responsible students with an enthusiasm for learning and having fun. This is a year-round program, and the interview and selection process takes place in May; and after training, the teens start in early June.
