New for 2010: Growing Up WILD!
 


About the program: Growing Up WILD is an early childhood development program that builds on children's sense of wonder about nature and invites them to explore wildlife and the world around them. Through a wide range of activities and experiences, Growing Up WILD provides an early foundation for developing positive impressions about the natural world and lifelong social and academic skills. Another great program from the Council on Environmental Education (CEE), Growing Up WILD is correlated to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Standards and the Head Start Domains.
Materials attendees will receive: a full color manual written especially for early childhood educators of children ages 3-7, featuring 27 field-tested, hands-on, nature based activities. Includes crafts, art projects, music, conservation activities, reading and math connections and much more. Involves social, emotional, physical, language, and cognitive domains to help foster learning and development in all areas. Supports developmentally appropriate practice allowing children to learn at levels that are individually, socially, and culturally appropriate.
Ages: 3-7
Workshop Length: 3 or 6 hours
Credits: 3 or 6 SBEC/3 or 6 TEEAC credits upon completion of the workshop.


Project WILD and Project WILD Aquatic

About the program: Standards-based, interdisciplinary programs developed by the Council on Environmental Education (CEE). Cross curriculum activities include topics such as: emphasis on wildlife, world of water, aquatic habitats, and environmental issues. Great activities for family learning events in science and math.
Materials attendees will receive: a manual full of TEKS-related activities and scientific background information.
Grade Levels: K-12
Workshop length: 6 hours
Credits: 6 SBEC/6 TEEAC credits received upon completion of the workshop.

 

Project Learning Tree® (PLT) and Energy and Society

About the program: PLT is a program of the American Forest Foundation. It is a broad-based environmental education program, teaching kids how to think, not what to think by strengthening critical-thinking, team-building, and problem-solving skills. Topics range from forests, wildlife, and water, to community planning, waste management and energy.
Materials attendees will receive: a manual full of standards-based activities and resource list from Earth and Sky (www.earthsky.org).
Grade Levels: K-8
Workshop length: 6 hours
Credits: 6 SBEC/6 TEEAC credits received upon completion of the workshop.

 

Flying WILD

About the program: Flying WILD introduces middle school students to bird conservation through school bird festivals, hands-on classroom activities, and community service projects. Special Note about this program: Through a partnership with the Council for Environmental Education (the national office for Flying WILD and Project WILD) the Texas State Aquarium has become the 3rd City Partner in the nation to offer Flying WILD!
Materials attendees will receive: a manual full of National standards-based activities and information on how to host a festival
Grade Levels: 5-9
Workshop length: 3 hours
Credits: 3 SBEC/3 TEEAC credits received upon completion of the workshop.
