SEACAMP COUNSELOR (8 SEASONAL POSITIONS)
SENSITIVE POSITION – BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIRED
TWO LETTERS OF REFERENCE REQUIRED
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Safely provide supervision, guidance and direction to minor campers.
- Drive campers to off-site field sites
- Assist with field activities.
- Effectively communicate with parents.
- Serve as a positive representative of the Texas State Aquarium.
- Maintain a positive attitude under stressful conditions.
- Safely drive TSA vehicles.
MARGINAL DUTIES:
Perform related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated skill in effectively teaching children in both a structured and unstructured day camp setting
- Knowledge of local marine life
- Knowledge of proper use and care of scientific equipment
- Knowledge of the proper maintenance of salt-water aquariums
- Ability to work with children ages 6 through 15
- Ability to collect and handle marine specimens
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activities in an outdoor setting
- Ability to serve as a role model for campers
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience which would likely produce the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Prefer high school diploma and previous experience as camp counselor.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
CPR
First Aid
Lifeguard Certification preferred
Valid Texas Driver’s License
