TEXAS STATE AQUARIUM - Public Programs Presenter
Sensitive Position – Background Check Required

• Perform daily interpretive programs for/at TSA exhibits.
• Interpret TSA storyline and provide a high quality guest experience to visitors.
• Perform programs with live animals.
• Work in conjunction with Husbandry Department to insure animal safety and correct animal handling techniques.
• Work on public program committees to facilitate new program development and implementation.
• Conduct research in support of and/or write support materials for interpretive programs.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Skill in public speaking, interpretation, role playing, and storytelling in both structured and unstructured settings
• Knowledge of interpretive methodology preferred
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with public audiences of all ages
• Knowledge of local, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean marine ecology and natural history preferred
• Ability to handle live animals
• Ability to work as a team member and to maintain a motivational approach, particularly during peak work periods and in stressful situations
• Knowledge of proper use and care of scientific equipment and biofacts
• Ability to collect and handle marine specimens
• Ability to type accurately using a computer
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays as required
• Ability to perform strenuous physical activities in an outdoor setting
• Ability to assist with training the work of others

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience which would likely produce the required knowledge, skills and abilities

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Texas driver’s license and an insurable driving record

EQUIPMENT/MACHINERY/TOOLS USED:
Personal computer

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Some duties are performed in an air-conditioned environment; others will be performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions. The ability to speak, stand and walk for long periods of time is required.
