Project WILD and Project WILD Aquatic are standards-based, interdisciplinary programs developed by the Council on Environmental Education (CEE). They can be used to teach basic learning skills in science, social studies, language arts, math, art, music and physical education. Project WILD emphasizes wildlife, while Project WILD Aquatic focuses on the world of water and aquatic habitats. The programs may be conducted separately in 6 hour sessions, or combined in a 10-hour session. Each offers the following:

  • A teacher manual full of fun, hands-on, easy to use educational activities
  • Helpful, scientific background information preceding all activities
  • Powerful techniques and methods for teaching problem solving and decision-making skills
  • An adaptive approach to varied learning styles, appropriate for grades K-12
  • Great activities for family learning events in science and math
  • A program that is kid-tested and teacher approved.
  • SBEC/TEEAC credits
Project Learning Tree® (PLT) is a program of the American Forest Foundation. It is a broad-based environmental education program, teaching kids how to think, not what to think by strengthening critical thinking, team building, and problem solving skills. PLT correlates to national and state education standards. Topics range from forests, wildlife, and water, to community planning, waste management and energy. Each participate will receive a manual for the grade level they teach, and 6 SBEC/TEEAC credits.

Flying Wild is an exciting education program that introduces middle school students to bird conservation through school bird festivals, hands-on classroom activities, and community service projects. Through a partnership with the Council for Environmental Education (the national office for Flying WILD and Project WILD) the Texas State Aquarium (TSA) has become the 3rd City Partner in the nation to offer Flying WILD. Each 3-hour training session offers a curriculum manual, and 3 SBEC/TEEAC credits.

Keepers of the Coast is a collaborative education project with several school districts in the Texas Coastal Bend which provides environmental education and resources to meet the needs of Texas education requirements in science. Development and implementation of this project has been made possible by the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program. Additional support is provided by Patsy and C.C. Winn, the ExxonMobil Foundation, and the Ed Rachal Foundation. Call (361) 881-1203 for more information.
